Welcome!
This website was officially started by Erin Freeman and her class M3 in 2008, Kiwi's for Kenya had finished for the year but is restarting with the new class of Room 19. Room 19 are a class of year 7-8's which are 10-13 year olds from Hamilton, New Zealand and are the official Kiwi's for Kenya class at the moment. Just like M3 we are very excited to have the opportunity to do this. We find it really cool that we are going to change kids lives and are going to make friends with the people whose lives we change.
We are going to be fund raising for the children in Kenya for needs we are not sure of yet. But we are hoping that whatever we achieve while doing fund raising, it will be a big help and that they will be able to put it to good use.
We hope that you will follow us through our very exciting journey that we are about to start! We also hope that you will join this cause and become a member of this site!
Room 19! :)
(Below is the original message from M3)
This wiki is our website where we can share photos, stories and videos. We look forward to finding out more about our Kenyan friends. We welcome any keen schools or individuals to join our group of keen Kiwi kids who are looking to make a difference in the lives of other kids. Please join us in raising the profile and helping to raise funds for Kenyan children!
M3 are a class of Year 5/6 (9-11 year olds) from North Canterbury, New Zealand. We are passionate about making a difference to our generation. We began this project when we were alerted to the needs of a group of students who live in the Korogocho Slum in Nairobi, Kenya. We wanted to start a penpal programme and asked if they could send us photos. They were not able to do this so we started a fund raising campaign to raise money to buy digital cameras for our Kenyan friends.
We hope with these cameras we are able to make others aware of the fact that these kids need as much help as they can. We are now writing a recipe book and look forward to sending VCK (Voluntary Counsellors Kenya) the proceeds so that they can put it to great use.
If you think you can help out with fundraising then please leave a message for our teacher.
Please join our cause and add your photo to the members page. You can then create a page about you so that we can get to know you!
